Not so much that they've become like the Yankees, but because they're one of only 4 or 5 teams that CAN, and the only one in the same division. Without a stricter salary cap, it's only going to get worse. Personally I'd much rather see guys like Pedroia, Youkilis, Ellsbury, Gabbard (before that shit trade), Bucholz, and Papelbon as the nucleus of the team. The Yanks too - Chamberlain, Hughes, Cano, Cabrera, and so on. Both teams could dump $40-60 million in payroll and still win 90+ games, and balance out the league so teams like Baltimore, Pittsburgh, KC could compete again. |
