Jeter...MLB's worst shortstop?

On the Jeter post (and as a numbers guy but also a huge NYY fan), Jeter's real value is his leadership, offense, and ability to deliver big-bricks plays. Also, his SS contribution may also have been less of a focus given the team's generally great pitching staff.

Here are a couple of other good perspectives:

I read that article, and its absurd. Jeter just happens to be one of the greatest SS of all time.

I don't need to read an article to know a great player. I despise the Yankees, but I'm not ignorant enough to say the players suck simply because I dislike the team they play for. I have nothing against the individual players, I just grew up in Mass hating the Yanks. Jeter is a HoF SS, plain and simple - get no argument from me.

And since when did the Yankees have a great pitching staff? Good yes, great - not even close.

I don't know...maybe Jeter doesn't have great range to his left. But Joe Montana probably didn't have much of an arm. And, I heard Jack Nicklaus had a flying right elbow. But they all had something didn't they. They piled up the numbers that count most in sports, the number of championships.

I've pitched with mediocre, consistent shortstops and also with a few show stoppers, and the momentary eye-rolling when a ball shoots up the middle that I think *might* have been playable doesn't begin to compare to the fist pumping, back slapping effect of a tremendous play. Giving the pitcher a huge confidence boost and demoralizing the other team - are there stats for that?
